Philly Dance Africa Comes to Odunde!

ODUNDE, the Philadelphia Folklore Project, and the Ga-Adangbe Association
of Greater Philadelphia are collaborating to feature some Philly Dance
Africa performers at our oldest continuously running African American
community festival. Come see some of Philadelphia's best dancers bringing
traditions of the Diaspora to an ODUNDE stage. The ODUNDE festival begins
with a procession to the river at noon in honor of Oshun, followed by
African cultural performances all day long on two stages, and a festival
marketplace. A Dance Happens Here performance, supported by the National
Endowment for the Arts, and Dance Advance (a grant program funded by
The Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by the Philadelphia Dance

Join us at a commemorative gathering to mark the recent passing of
tap dance greats Edith Hunt ("Baby Edwards") and Henry Meadows, and
to keep alive the memory of Philadelphia tap legends, including Harold
Nicholas, Libby Spencer, Dave McHarris and others. Share your memories.
And help the PFP, the Mural Arts Program and Tap Team Two think about
what kind of mural would make a fitting memorial to Philadelphia�s distinguished
tap dance history.
Making a Mural About Philly's Tap Legacy
Call for Artists
Announcing a juried competition for the creation of a mural about Philadelphia
tap dancers. The competition is open to all artists. The mural will
be painted this summer. To apply, call the Philadelphia Folklore Project
(215.726.1106) or Mural Arts Program (215.683.3689) for an application
form. You will be asked to submit up to 10 slide samples of your work
and a drawing or design of an idea for the mural. Deadline for applications
is June 15, 2001.

or Apprenticeship application. The hands-on workshop focuses on the
