September 2002: Internships at the PFP

We offer supervised unpaid internships, paid internships, and volunteer opportunities at the PFP as resources, time, projects, and space permit. We are also an approved (PHEAA) Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency work-study site, and some students can arrange off-campus work-study with us. Intern projects are as varied as interns! We work with you to develop a project that benefits you, the PFP, and the artists and constituents we serve. In the past, interns have undertaken projects accessioning materials for our archive, developing portions of our website, creating finding and bibliographic aids for our collections, logging audio and videotapes, doing preliminary surveys of folk arts in particular communities, and marketing PFP publications. Those interested in interning at the Philadelphia Folklore Project should send a resume and a letter of inquiry, explaining 1) why you are interested in working at the PFP; 2) what specific kind of experience or learnings you are seeking; 3) what specific skills your bring (including computer and/or language skills or cultural competencies); 4) exactly when you are available and what kind of time schedule and time commitment would work for you. Please direct your letter to Internships, Philadelphia Folklore Project, 735 South 50th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19143, or pfp@folkloreproject.org.
